Received his degree with Honors in Industrial Mgt. and has a Minor in Economics.  Drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays and played in the minor leagues in the late 80’s.  Returned home to follow in his father’s footsteps as a Coach, Father, and Athletic Assoc. Leader.  Served on the Mint Hill Ath. Assoc. board for over 10 years…coaching all 3-sports and running the Baseball and Basketball programs.  Steve has been a coach for over 30 years in all capacities…AAU, USSSA, Little League, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Pony League, Nations Baseball, Pop Warner etc.  Was fortunate enough to be the Head Coach of the Team Mint Hill squad that won the First ever International Sister Cities Baseball Tournament in France.  He has played and Coached against over a dozen different countries in his career.

Stu Brown

A graduate of the University of Richmond in 1986, Stu has lived in the Mint Hill area with his wife, Lisa, son Read, and daughters Austin, and Cassandra since 1995.  While at Richmond, Stu was a three year starter as their catcher and captained the Spiders both his Junior and Senior seasons.  During his Senior year he led the team to the Regionals of the College World Series played in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  During that year Stu played alongside Brian Jordan, who continued his career with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Stu has been fortunate to have been coached and mentored by some of baseball’s most heralded coaches:  1980 winning World Series Manager and current Special Assistant to the Philadelphia Phillies General Manager, Dallas Green; 2000 Olympic Gold Medal winning, and current Davidson College head baseball coach, Dick Cooke; and three-time World Series Champion (2 as a player, 1 as a coach), John Vukovich.  Fortunately Stu has connections with professional scouts and coaches and college coaches, of whom he talks to frequently and draws upon their expertise to stay abreast of the latest teaching and coaching strategies.

Over the past 20 years Stu has coached at many different levels and has been invited to be an instructor at various camps.  His coaching philosophy is a simple one:  work hard, hustle, and always respect the game.  A quote he coaches by is: “A player never cares how much you know until he knows how much you care.”
